Invite a guest speaker or surprise speaker to the session to deliver content or join a discussion.

Surprises keep virtual sessions fresh and fun. Guests are memorable and the right guest can add valuable content.

Process

1. Secure a guest to join part or all of a live session. Be sure to brief them on expected content and session logistics.
2. Have the guest speaker join the live session to speak, join a discussion, answer questions, or participate in activities.
3. Debrief the room as needed afterward.

Daisy chain options

a) If the guest appearance is announced in advance, have participants prepare questions or other content in advance. Questions for Q&A are especially helpful and can be tied to communication-based lessons.
b) Incorporate guest speaker content into reviews or evaluations.

Variations

a) Allow participants to source guest speakers if appropriate.
b) Guests not related the program topic are still useful, surprising, and fun. As long as the guest is prompted on how to participate, almost any guest can contribute ideas to the conversation. Other interesting guests could be family or friends of the facilitator, local celebrities such as local news anchors, and people in different countries. Virtual platforms are global and we may as well tap into that convenience.
