Why we like it

This creative, collaborative process gets participants talking about and visualizing their strategies in a unique way.

Process

1. If needed, show an example an artistic strategy. Consider not allowing any words or limiting words to specific titles only (for example, if discussing negotiation strategies, only words such as “offer,” “counteroffer,” and “agreement” are allowed).
2. Put teams in breakout rooms with their task and instructions.
3. Teams draw their own symbols using a collaborative whiteboard or sketchpad or source images or symbols online to create a shared strategy.
4. Teams report back to the main room to explain their visual strategy’s meanings.

Daisy chain options

a) Ask other teams to interpret the visual strategy before the original team’s explanation.
b) Have teams refer to and follow their strategies in front other participants to check effectiveness and for feedback.

Variations

a) Ask participants to bring their own photos to the groups.
b) This activity can be run by individuals online or offline for sharing their personal strategies.
