Outside Review

10-30, individual, intermediate.png

Description

Participants leverage outside reviews or evaluations of their work using analytics tools, expert opinions, or other research. As pre-work, this activity creates great content for the live session. As post-work, it solidifies skills and creates new outlets for self-development.

Why we like it

The facilitator can recommend exact external resources, or participants can seek their own from online tools to personal connections.

Example activities and resources

1. Writing samples are sent to AI analytic tools like Readability Test Tool or Crystal.
2. Spoken activities like presentations, dialogues, stories, and mock interviews are sent to transcription tools like Otter and Trint or run through more complex services like Gweek or Orai.
3. Proposals, plans, strategies, and opinions can be sent to subject matter experts for evaluation or just casual business acquaintances for comments.
4. Participants contact professionals, organizations, and connections to explore review/evaluation options.
5. Turn this activity into a group project. (recommended after a live session for rapport)

Process

With a bit of planning and the right topic, this activity can be run by the participants themselves outside of live sessions. The facilitator decides how findings are used in the program leaving more flexibility with live activities.

1. Determine your endgame for this activity and what is expected of the participants:
a) What specific types of research are needed?
b) How much research? How long will it take participants?
c) Will this be pre-session, post-session, or elsewhere?
d) How will the results be delivered?
e) How will the results be used in the program?
f) What obstacles might stop participants from completing their research? Possibly budget, tech, time, lack of connections? What are the routes around research roadblocks?

2. Create and deliver specific instructions for the activity. A bit of planning goes a long way if this is pre-work and not explained in a live session.

If instructions are in depth, consider making video instructions. Loom is a great recording tool for screenshot videos. Prezi Video is a unique option. Even a personal video from your webcam adds sincerity.

Finally, be sure to advise how to submit questions or seek help.
